About us

Fern & Fable was founded by

(born and raised!) Ormond Beach local, Rayna Dunlop.

As a mom of 3 and a lifelong reader, she loves sharing books with people of all ages.

Whether you're 9 or 90, the joy of reading is pure magic!

In an age of shopping online and algorithms, we aim to bring the soul back into bookselling by building relationships with our readers and providing a hub for bookish endeavors.

Independent bookstores are vital in protecting the right to read, bolstering an educated community, reflecting the heart of local readers and building the local economy.

Choosing a locally-owned business generates 3x as much economic benefit for your community versus shopping at a chain.

When you shop local, you are directly supporting and enriching your own community with your purchases—and your tax dollars. [Source: libro.fm & American Independent Business Alliance]

Book Club updates

Hi Bookish Friends!

Thanks for your patience this summer while we took some time off of our adult book clubs. It’s been a much needed break to enjoy summer evenings with our family.

Since we hosted our very first book club event last fall we’ve been trying different schedules and ideas to see what works best and what’s feasible for us to provide. We hope to find a good rhythm that you can rely on consistently!

For this fall - starting August 29th - We are planning to host book clubs the 2nd and 4th Thursday of each month at 6pm.

(Nov & December will only one meeting on the 2nd thursday)

Genres will rotate, feel free to join in for any titles that interest you.

No need to commit to each meeting. (Though the more you attend, the more we can keep it going!)

Purchase the book through Fern & Fable to join. (Audio purchase on libro.fm count too!)

If you already have the book you can purchase a ticket for $10

Very light refreshments will be served. (Waters, simple snacks)

Story Time updates

One of the greatest joys of my job here at Fern & Fable is story time! Little people are my favorite visitors and it is so much fun to share new picture books with out tiniest of friends! Though sometimes it can be hard to gauge what the community is looking for. Since we hosted our very first story time event last fall we’ve been trying different schedules and ideas to see what works best and what’s feasible for us to provide. And there have been a few instances of planning and preparing only to have no one join us.

So we hope to find a good rhythm that you can rely on consistently and that would fit into busy family schedules.

This fall - starting August 3rd - we will host story time once a month on the first Saturday of the month at 11:30am. Each story time will be at least a double feature (two + books depending on length) and we hope that it will be a fun time for families to enjoy playing together in our children's room.

As we enter into the holiday season, the monthly events will have more seasonal themes.

Story time is free and open to all!

(though featured books will always be available for purchase!)

We hope you‘ll bring your little ones out to join us the first Saturday of each month to enjoy story time and play time at Fern & Fable!
